Electronic Art

I am curious about pushing beyond traditional painting processes and expanding the definition of “painting.” Below are some of my experiments that merge electronics with painting.

This portrait is my homage to Nikola Tesla, a pioneer of modern electricity. In this oil painting, I aim to go beyond a traditional portrait by integrating elements that challenge conventional notions of painting. A diamond pattern of holes on Tesla’s face is illuminated by RGB LEDs, creating a synthesis between his contributions to electricity and my tribute to him. Since representational painting is often described as painting “light,” and Tesla played a key role in shaping modern electricity, what better way to honor him than with a portrait that incorporates actual light?

In my oil painting Memento Mori, Memento Vivere, I merge an infinity mirror with traditional painting. The Latin phrase translates roughly to ‘remember that you must die, remember that you must live,’ reflecting the existential themes and legacy explored in much of my work. The skull symbolizes death, time, and the cycle of life, while the golden scarab represents immortality, resurrection, and eternity. To construct this piece, I built a shadow box from MDF, lined it with RGB LEDs, and created an infinity illusion by bouncing light between a reflective film and a mirror. The result is a painting that extends beyond its surface, where shifting three-dimensional light recedes infinitely into space.
